・Description

“One Coloring Story”
- Amabie Coloring Project -

Amabie is a legendary Japanese sprit allegedly emerges from the sea, prophesies an epidemic, and instructed people "Draw a picture of me and show the picture of me to those who fall ill and they will be cured."

“Stay Home” continued all over the world.
Early April 2021 I invited my friends to collect coloring pictures of Amabie for their prayers.
That was the beginning of a year-long project.
Through the Social Networking Services,
Coloring pictures of Amabie was collected one after another from all over Japan.
Over 800 colored drawings for prayers covered the entire walls of Fukuoka Asian Art Museum.
People of all ages, from 1 and half years old to 95 years old, participated in this project.
Each of these colored pictures links one with another.
We took coloring pictures of Amabie for a ritual ceremony known as a “Otakiage”, burnt them at Rokusho Shrine in Itoshima City, Fukuoka.
Their ashes returned to the sea with our prayers.

People Pray
And keep praying.
Believing that your wish will come true.

HOPE
Things we can do,
Keep thinking about “precious life” with respect,
One step forward even it is very small,
Continue to wish the earth to be filled with many beautiful flowers.
